Got up around 2am this morning to go and watch for meteors. Really, we were already up since we were watching the Olympics live. We got a tip from some friends that early this morning (right after the moon set) is when the Perseids meteor shower would be at its peak. All the kids were remarkably easy to load up in the car and they were all (except Isaac) able to see their first meteors go flying by! Not bad for our first attempt at actually going out to see them.
I even managed to get a picture of one of the meteors. Its not the best shot, but if you look in the upper right hand corner of the picture, you can see the streak going across the sky. In the middle of the picture is the Little Dipper, and at the bottom is light from a major thunderstorm occurring over the Kansas plains. You’ll most likely have to open the full size version of the picture to see it. Click HERE for that full size image.
Even though we headed out away from the lights and were over 20+ miles from the city, there was still a lot of light pollution. Another hour east would have made things spectacular, but considering the kids and the lack of planning, we were all very happy with the results.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. I was greeted this morning by my kids who had each made custom cards for me to along with small plants that each of them had planted themselves. The icing on the cake of course was having our new baby boy at home with us. Isaac and mommy continue to do well and we are all settling in to the new groove that is, having a newborn at home.
Been a bit busy lately…typical this time of year
I’ll be writing more over the next few days to catch up on whats happened over the past few weeks. For now though, the show must go on! I mean, Santa comes tonight and there is no time to spare. Tonight after dinner we got the cookies ready for the big man himself. Enjoy the picture for now, I’ll be writing more soon. Hope everyone has a great holiday.
