No cavaties, and new teethare looking perfect! Good job katie!
Got up around 2am this morning to go and watch for meteors. Really, we were already up since we were watching the Olympics live. We got a tip from some friends that early this morning (right after the moon set) is when the Perseids meteor shower would be at its peak. All the kids were remarkably easy to load up in the car and they were all (except Isaac) able to see their first meteors go flying by! Not bad for our first attempt at actually going out to see them.
I even managed to get a picture of one of the meteors. Its not the best shot, but if you look in the upper right hand corner of the picture, you can see the streak going across the sky. In the middle of the picture is the Little Dipper, and at the bottom is light from a major thunderstorm occurring over the Kansas plains. You’ll most likely have to open the full size version of the picture to see it. Click HERE for that full size image.
Even though we headed out away from the lights and were over 20+ miles from the city, there was still a lot of light pollution. Another hour east would have made things spectacular, but considering the kids and the lack of planning, we were all very happy with the results.

Took this just a few minutes ago. Having quite a bit of a storm at the minute. This is called an HDR (High Dynamic Range) image. You create this type of image by taking multiple shots of the same scene, with different exposures, and then combining them and applying tone mapping scenarios. Read here if you want to learn more. Photoshop can take care of this processing for you, but there are many others out there that do a better job. If your on a mac, I highly recommend QTPFSGUI. It’s open source (free) software that does a great job.
And now….for the image!

Isaac is 6 weeks old today. We finally managed to get a good shot of those blue-grey eyes. Isaac and mom continue to do well and Isaac is about 13 pounds now. Leah’s also lost 30 pounds and is feeling great. Thanks again for everyone’s comments and emails!!

Hammond’s Candies has a local factory in Denver, CO where they offer free tours. We took a ride over there today to check it out and enjoyed some samples during the presentation. The tour is only about 30 minutes, where you get to view the workers doing their magic. They started doing this in 1920, and it doesn’t look like much has changed. The brief tour makes for a nice stop if you have a handful of kids with you.

Well, sometimes the floor is just more comfortable…apparently. This was just asking to be the Picture Of The Day.
